A Preliminary Study on Reliability and Validity of The Korean Version of Caregiving Helplessness Questionnaire(K-CHQ)

Abstract

|
The purpose of this study is to validate the Caregiving Helplessness Questionnaire(CHQ) for mother of 3-5 years children, and to examine validity and reliability of the CHQ developed by George and Solomon(2011). CHQ was translated to korean and reversal translation by the author’s approval and distributed to 985 parents who rasing 3 to 5 years old child. After that,
collected the questionnaire to examine validity and reliability. Also, The Caregiving Helplessness Questionnaire were analyzed using exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, validity. As a result, final 12 item selected for the Korean-Caregiving Helplessness Questionnaire(K-CHQ), including Mother helplessness(3 items), Child destructive behavior(6 items), dysfunctional caregiving(3 items). The internal consistency and factors of inter-item correlation of the Korean-Caregiving Helplessness Questionnaire(K-CHQ) demonstrated satisfactory reliability. The newly Korean-Caregiving Helplessness Questionnaire(K-CHQ) was carried out by checking correlations among another related scales(K-PRQ, K-PSI-SF). And It demonstrated to have the appropriate level of validity. The result of this study is proved that Korean-Caregiving Helplessness Questionnaire(K-CHQ) can be a valid scale and reliable assessment for korean
mother’s caregiving helplessness. This questionnaire can be helpful treating the parents who are experiencing caregiving helplessness.
